Air cargo, fuel by sea and the 96-hour rule in Miami

Serving Miami-Dade County

Miami International Airport moved nearly 3.5 million tons of cargo in 2025, more than any other U.S. airport. MIA also has more flights to Latin America and the Caribbean than any other U.S. airport. Forwarders and trucking fleets move that freight off the airfield on diesel.

Florida has no refineries and no major pipeline from the Gulf Coast. South Florida’s fuel comes in by tanker and barge at Port Everglades, which handles more than 15 million gallons of energy products a day. Tanker trucks carry it south into Miami-Dade. In April 2023, after 25.6 inches of rain fell on Fort Lauderdale, flooding kept trucks from reaching the terminals and South Florida stations ran dry. Officials called it a distribution problem, not a supply problem.

The 96-hour generator rule

In 2017, after Hurricane Irma, a Hollywood Hills nursing home lost its air conditioning for three days and residents died. Florida responded with a generator mandate. Nursing homes and assisted living facilities need backup power and fuel to keep the building at 81°F or cooler for at least 96 hours. Facilities in an evacuation zone must either evacuate or have 96 hours of fuel on site within 24 hours of a state of emergency. That puts a hard deadline on generator fueling every hurricane season.

Mobile fueling or bulk delivery: which fits your Miami site?

Three delivery formats. We’ll quote whichever fits your volume, site access and cost target.

Wet-Hose Fueling
Mobile fleet fueling
Overnight or day shift, fuel direct to each tank
A driver pulls into your yard after hours, fuels every truck or piece of equipment directly, logs each fill, and clears out before your crews arrive. No staff required on site.
Best for: Trucking fleets, delivery yards, rental fleets and service vehicles.
Tank Wagon Delivery
On-site tank fills
20 – 4,400 gallons per drop · same-day or scheduled
A smaller delivery truck fills your day tank, jobsite bulk tank or generator. The flexible option when volume varies or site access is tight.
Best for: Construction sites, generator refills, day tanks and smaller bulk storage.
Transport Load
Bulk transport delivery
Full transport loads to 7,500+ gallons · scheduled
Tractor-trailer delivery straight into large bulk storage. The lowest cost per gallon for high-volume buyers.

Miami fuel delivery questions, answered

Where does Miami's diesel come from?
By ship. Florida has no refineries and no major pipeline from the Gulf Coast, so South Florida is supplied from the terminals at Port Everglades and trucked south. When flooding or a storm disrupts the port, supply tightens across the region, which is why sites that depend on diesel keep their own storage full.
Can you help a nursing home or assisted living facility meet Florida's generator fuel rule?
We can deliver diesel to fill and top off generator tanks on a schedule, and test or polish stored fuel so it is usable when the power goes out. How much fuel your facility must hold is set by its emergency plan and the state rule, so confirm the volume with your plan before you order.
Do you fuel cargo and distribution fleets around MIA?
Yes. Mobile fleet fueling (wet-hosing) fuels parked trucks, vans and reefer units at your yard, with DEF on the same visit. Tell dispatch about any airport badge or escort rules when you set up the schedule.
Do you deliver fuel 24/7 in Miami?
Yes. FuelGo dispatch runs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, including nights, weekends and holidays. Call 800-720-4546 any time, or request a quote online and a dispatcher replies within the hour.
What fuels can you deliver in Miami?
Clear on-road diesel (ULSD #2), red-dyed off-road diesel, gasoline, diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) and R99 renewable diesel. Most customers combine two or more on the same delivery.
Do you deliver diesel to generators in Miami?
Yes. Dyed diesel for standby and prime generators, on a refill schedule or as an emergency run during an outage. Generator fueling →
Do you offer mobile fleet fueling in Miami?
Yes. We wet-hose trucks and equipment in your yard, usually overnight, and log every gallon by unit. Mobile fleet fueling →
Can you deliver bulk diesel to our tanks in Miami?
Yes. Anything from 20 gallons to a 7,500-gallon transport load, into above-ground, underground or portable tanks. Bulk delivery →
How much fuel can you deliver at once?
Tank wagon deliveries run from 20 to 4,400 gallons per drop, and full transport loads to 7,500 gallons or more for large bulk tanks. Tell us your tank size and usage and we’ll recommend the right format.
How much is diesel tax in Florida?
On-road (clear) diesel in Florida carries $0.6580 per gallon in combined federal and state taxes and fees, and off-road (dyed) diesel $0.0260 per gallon, as of October 16, 2026. Sales and local taxes are extra where they apply. Using dyed diesel on public roads is illegal. See diesel taxes by state →
Do you offer emergency fuel delivery in Miami?
Yes. If a generator is running low or a site is about to run dry, call 800-720-4546 and a dispatcher will confirm what we can get to you and when.
Can you set up recurring scheduled deliveries?
Yes. Most customers start with a one-time delivery and move to a recurring schedule, so tanks, generators and fleets are topped up before they run low, without anyone having to call it in.
Do you rent fuel tanks?
Yes. We rent diesel and gasoline tanks from 119 to 17,000 gallons, with pumps, meters and hose fitted, and refills on a schedule. See our fuel tank rental page for sizes.
Do you have smaller trucks for tight sites?
Yes. Smaller delivery trucks reach tight urban sites, parking structures and jobsites where a full-size tanker can’t fit.
What payment options do you accept?
Credit cards, ACH and checks. Credit terms are available for qualifying commercial accounts. Ask your dispatcher for details.
