Three rivers, steel mills and tunnels fuel can't use

Serving Allegheny County

Pittsburgh still moves heavy freight on water. The Port of Pittsburgh district covers 200 miles of commercially navigable river, held in pool by 16 locks and dams. In 2020 it ranked as the fifth-busiest inland port in the country. Towboats, terminal cranes and loaders along the Allegheny, Monongahela and Ohio all burn diesel.

Steel is still made up the Monongahela. U.S. Steel’s Mon Valley Works runs the Edgar Thomson blast furnaces in Braddock, the Irvin finishing plant in West Mifflin and the Clairton coke works. Contractors and haulers around those plants need fuel on site.

Tunnels and bridges shape every route

Flammable liquids are not allowed in the Fort Pitt, Squirrel Hill or Liberty tunnels. A fuel load bound for downtown, the South Hills or Oakland has to go over the hills and across the bridges instead. The city counts 446 of them. When one fails, the detour is long: the Fern Hollow Bridge on Forbes Avenue collapsed in January 2022 and didn’t reopen until December 2022. On-site delivery means your crews don’t make those trips to a fuel station.

Mobile fueling or bulk delivery: which fits your Pittsburgh site?

Three delivery formats. We’ll quote whichever fits your volume, site access and cost target.

Wet-Hose Fueling
Mobile fleet fueling
Overnight or day shift, fuel direct to each tank
A driver pulls into your yard after hours, fuels every truck or piece of equipment directly, logs each fill, and clears out before your crews arrive. No staff required on site.
Best for: Trucking fleets, delivery yards, rental fleets and service vehicles.
Tank Wagon Delivery
On-site tank fills
20 – 4,400 gallons per drop · same-day or scheduled
A smaller delivery truck fills your day tank, jobsite bulk tank or generator. The flexible option when volume varies or site access is tight.
Best for: Construction sites, generator refills, day tanks and smaller bulk storage.
Transport Load
Bulk transport delivery
Full transport loads to 7,500+ gallons · scheduled
Tractor-trailer delivery straight into large bulk storage. The lowest cost per gallon for high-volume buyers.
Best for: Data centers, large industrial sites, agriculture and rail yards.

Pittsburgh fuel delivery questions, answered

Can fuel trucks use the Fort Pitt, Squirrel Hill or Liberty tunnels?
No. Flammable liquids and explosives are barred from all three tunnels, so fuel loads take surface routes and bridges instead. Tell dispatch your exact site address so the route accounts for it.
Do you fuel river terminals and barge operations around Pittsburgh?
Yes. We deliver diesel and DEF to terminal equipment, yard trucks and site tanks along the Allegheny, Monongahela and Ohio. Terminals have their own gate and safety rules, so give dispatch your access requirements when you order.
Can you supply mill yards and contractors in the Mon Valley?
Yes. Plant yards usually need mobile fleet fueling for loaders and yard trucks, and contractors need off-road diesel and a fuel tank rental for storage on site.
Do you deliver fuel 24/7 in Pittsburgh?
Yes. FuelGo dispatch runs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, including nights, weekends and holidays. Call 800-720-4546 any time, or request a quote online and a dispatcher replies within the hour.
What fuels can you deliver in Pittsburgh?
Clear on-road diesel (ULSD #2), red-dyed off-road diesel, gasoline, diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) and R99 renewable diesel. Most customers combine two or more on the same delivery.
Do you deliver diesel to generators in Pittsburgh?
Yes. Dyed diesel for standby and prime generators, on a refill schedule or as an emergency run during an outage. Generator fueling →
Do you offer mobile fleet fueling in Pittsburgh?
Yes. We wet-hose trucks and equipment in your yard, usually overnight, and log every gallon by unit. Mobile fleet fueling →
Can you deliver bulk diesel to our tanks in Pittsburgh?
Yes. Anything from 20 gallons to a 7,500-gallon transport load, into above-ground, underground or portable tanks. Bulk delivery →
How much fuel can you deliver at once?
Tank wagon deliveries run from 20 to 4,400 gallons per drop, and full transport loads to 7,500 gallons or more for large bulk tanks. Tell us your tank size and usage and we’ll recommend the right format.
How much is diesel tax in Pennsylvania?
On-road (clear) diesel in Pennsylvania carries $1.0003 per gallon in combined federal and state taxes and fees, and off-road (dyed) diesel $0.0653 per gallon, as of October 16, 2026. Sales and local taxes are extra where they apply. Using dyed diesel on public roads is illegal. See diesel taxes by state →
Do you offer emergency fuel delivery in Pittsburgh?
Yes. If a generator is running low or a site is about to run dry, call 800-720-4546 and a dispatcher will confirm what we can get to you and when.
Can you set up recurring scheduled deliveries?
Yes. Most customers start with a one-time delivery and move to a recurring schedule, so tanks, generators and fleets are topped up before they run low, without anyone having to call it in.
Do you rent fuel tanks?
Yes. We rent diesel and gasoline tanks from 119 to 17,000 gallons, with pumps, meters and hose fitted, and refills on a schedule. See our fuel tank rental page for sizes.
Do you have smaller trucks for tight sites?
Yes. Smaller delivery trucks reach tight urban sites, parking structures and jobsites where a full-size tanker can’t fit.
What payment options do you accept?
Credit cards, ACH and checks. Credit terms are available for qualifying commercial accounts. Ask your dispatcher for details.
