Renewable fuel, Malmstrom and chinook swings in Great Falls

Serving Cascade County

Great Falls refines fuel. Calumet’s refinery here now runs alongside Montana Renewables, which started up in late 2022 making renewable diesel, sustainable aviation fuel and renewable naphtha. In September 2026 it announced a plan to reach about 200 million gallons a year of SAF by the end of 2028, with a major turnaround scheduled for late 2026. Turnarounds and expansions bring contractors, cranes and generators that need fuel on site.

Malmstrom Air Force Base is the largest of the three Air Force bases that run Minuteman III missiles, and its missile field stretches across a huge swath of central Montana. It is one of the three wings in line for the Sentinel replacement. Crews and contractors cover long distances between launch sites.

Great Falls anchors one corner of the Golden Triangle, the wheat country that grows about 45% of Montana’s wheat. Harvest and seeding seasons put tractors, combines and grain trucks on dyed diesel for weeks at a time.

Chinook winds

On January 11, 1980, a chinook wind hit Great Falls and the temperature rose from 32 below to 15 above in seven minutes, still the U.S. record for the fastest temperature change. Swings like that also run the other way. Fuel needs a winter blend that handles the cold snap, not the thaw.

Three delivery formats. We’ll quote whichever fits your volume, site access and cost target.

Wet-Hose Fueling
Mobile fleet fueling
Overnight or day shift, fuel direct to each tank
A driver pulls into your yard after hours, fuels every truck or piece of equipment directly, logs each fill, and clears out before your crews arrive. No staff required on site.
Best for: Trucking fleets, delivery yards, rental fleets and service vehicles.
Tank Wagon Delivery
On-site tank fills
20 – 4,400 gallons per drop · same-day or scheduled
A smaller delivery truck fills your day tank, jobsite bulk tank or generator. The flexible option when volume varies or site access is tight.
Best for: Construction sites, generator refills, day tanks and smaller bulk storage.
Transport Load
Bulk transport delivery
Full transport loads to 7,500+ gallons · scheduled
Tractor-trailer delivery straight into large bulk storage. The lowest cost per gallon for high-volume buyers.
