Bobcat, the Red River diversion and deep cold in Fargo

Serving Cass County

Fargo lives with the Red River. On March 28, 2009, the river crested at 40.84 feet, beating a record from 1897. The city held, but only after more than seven million sandbags and 69 miles of emergency measures. That flood is why the metro is now building the FM Area Diversion, a 30-mile stormwater channel. By June 2026, crews had dug out more than 90% of the channel, and project leaders aim to have it operational in 2027. Scrapers, excavators and haul trucks on a job that size burn a lot of diesel.

Equipment is also built here. Bobcat’s North American headquarters is in West Fargo, and the company employs more than 3,500 people in North Dakota. Its main plant is in Gwinner. Plants and the trucks between them all need fuel and DEF.

Deep cold

I-29 and I-94 cross in Fargo, so fleets keep moving whatever the thermometer says. On February 13, 2021, Fargo-Moorhead’s high was -12°F, a record low maximum for the date. At that temperature, untreated diesel gels, DEF freezes, and a generator that won’t start is a real problem. Winter-blend diesel, heated DEF storage and full tanks before a cold snap are the plan here.

Mobile fueling or bulk delivery: which fits your Fargo site?

Three delivery formats. We’ll quote whichever fits your volume, site access and cost target.

Wet-Hose Fueling
Mobile fleet fueling
Overnight or day shift, fuel direct to each tank
A driver pulls into your yard after hours, fuels every truck or piece of equipment directly, logs each fill, and clears out before your crews arrive. No staff required on site.
Best for: Trucking fleets, delivery yards, rental fleets and service vehicles.
Tank Wagon Delivery
On-site tank fills
20 – 4,400 gallons per drop · same-day or scheduled
A smaller delivery truck fills your day tank, jobsite bulk tank or generator. The flexible option when volume varies or site access is tight.
Best for: Construction sites, generator refills, day tanks and smaller bulk storage.
Transport Load
Bulk transport delivery
Full transport loads to 7,500+ gallons · scheduled
Tractor-trailer delivery straight into large bulk storage. The lowest cost per gallon for high-volume buyers.

Fargo fuel delivery questions, answered

Do you fuel contractors working on the FM Area Diversion and other big sites?

What diesel do you deliver in a Fargo winter?
Winter-treated diesel, timed to the season, so it keeps flowing in subzero weather. Keep tanks full to limit condensation, and see our guide to preventing diesel gelling for cloud point and additives.

Yes. FuelGo dispatch runs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, including nights, weekends and holidays. Call 800-720-4546 any time, or request a quote online and a dispatcher replies within the hour.

On-road (clear) diesel in North Dakota carries $0.4783 per gallon in combined federal and state taxes and fees, and off-road (dyed) diesel $0.0453 per gallon, as of October 16, 2026. Sales and local taxes are extra where they apply. Using dyed diesel on public roads is illegal. See diesel taxes by state →

Can you set up recurring scheduled deliveries?
Yes. Most customers start with a one-time delivery and move to a recurring schedule, so tanks, generators and fleets are topped up before they run low, without anyone having to call it in.
Do you rent fuel tanks?
Yes. We rent diesel and gasoline tanks from 119 to 17,000 gallons, with pumps, meters and hose fitted, and refills on a schedule. See our fuel tank rental page for sizes.
Do you have smaller trucks for tight sites?
