A Missouri River refinery, I-94 and -45°F in Bismarck

Serving Burleigh County

Bismarck is the state capital, and the Missouri River runs between it and Mandan. On a terrace above the river on the Mandan side, Marathon’s Mandan refinery has been running since 1954. North Dakota’s environmental regulators put its capacity at 71,000 barrels a day of crude, mostly sweet North Dakota oil. Refinery contractors on one bank and state government buildings on the other keep fuel moving across the river.

I-94 crosses the Missouri between the two cities on the Grant Marsh Bridge, with the BNSF rail crossing just to the south. It is the main east-west route through the state, and the freight, farm and construction fleets based here run on diesel and DEF.

Cold, then water

Bismarck’s record low is 45 below zero. Diesel gels well before that, so winter blends and a full tank matter here more than in most places.

Then there is the river. In June 2011, the Corps of Engineers opened the Garrison Dam spillway, 75 miles upstream, for the first time in its history. Releases hit a record 152,000 cubic feet per second, more than twice the old record. Bismarck and Mandan laid 11 million sandbags in a couple of weeks, and the river stayed at flood stage until August 18.

Mobile fueling or bulk delivery: which fits your Bismarck site?

Three delivery formats. We’ll quote whichever fits your volume, site access and cost target.

Wet-Hose Fueling
Mobile fleet fueling
Overnight or day shift, fuel direct to each tank
A driver pulls into your yard after hours, fuels every truck or piece of equipment directly, logs each fill, and clears out before your crews arrive. No staff required on site.
Best for: Trucking fleets, delivery yards, rental fleets and service vehicles.
Tank Wagon Delivery
On-site tank fills
20 – 4,400 gallons per drop · same-day or scheduled
A smaller delivery truck fills your day tank, jobsite bulk tank or generator. The flexible option when volume varies or site access is tight.
Best for: Construction sites, generator refills, day tanks and smaller bulk storage.
Transport Load
Bulk transport delivery
Full transport loads to 7,500+ gallons · scheduled
Tractor-trailer delivery straight into large bulk storage. The lowest cost per gallon for high-volume buyers.
