A master jet base, offshore wind and Bay tunnel rules

Serving City of Virginia Beach

Virginia Beach is a Navy town first. Naval Air Station Oceana is the East Coast master jet base, and in fiscal 2021 it counted about 16,450 active-duty and civilian personnel. Contractors working on base get their diesel delivered under the Navy’s gate and access rules.

Offshore wind is the new industry. Dominion’s Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind farm, 27 to 44 miles off the coast, sent its first power ashore on March 23, 2026. When finished it will have 176 turbines, and its undersea cables land at the State Military Reservation in Virginia Beach.

The Bay crossing that fuel can’t use

The 17.6-mile Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel runs from Virginia Beach to the Eastern Shore, but tank vehicles that carry Class 3 flammable liquids are barred from it, even when empty. A fuel truck from Virginia Beach can’t use it to reach the other side.

Water is the weather risk. During Hurricane Matthew in October 2016, the city reported that almost every road in Virginia Beach was impassable. More than 260,000 customers lost power across the region. When the streets flood, a fuel truck can’t reach you, so the fuel has to be in the tank already.

Mobile fueling or bulk delivery: which fits your Virginia Beach site?

Three delivery formats. We’ll quote whichever fits your volume, site access and cost target.

Wet-Hose Fueling
Mobile fleet fueling
Overnight or day shift, fuel direct to each tank
A driver pulls into your yard after hours, fuels every truck or piece of equipment directly, logs each fill, and clears out before your crews arrive. No staff required on site.
Best for: Trucking fleets, delivery yards, rental fleets and service vehicles.
Tank Wagon Delivery
On-site tank fills
20 – 4,400 gallons per drop · same-day or scheduled
A smaller delivery truck fills your day tank, jobsite bulk tank or generator. The flexible option when volume varies or site access is tight.
Best for: Construction sites, generator refills, day tanks and smaller bulk storage.
Transport Load
Bulk transport delivery
Full transport loads to 7,500+ gallons · scheduled
Tractor-trailer delivery straight into large bulk storage. The lowest cost per gallon for high-volume buyers.

Virginia Beach fuel delivery questions, answered

Can fuel tank trucks use the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel?
No. Tank vehicles used for Class 3 flammable liquids are barred from the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel, even when empty. A tank truck in Virginia Beach can't simply cross to the Eastern Shore, so tell dispatch if you have sites on both sides of the Bay.
Do you fuel contractors working around NAS Oceana and Dam Neck?
Yes. We deliver off-road diesel and DEF to equipment and site tanks for contractors. Military sites have their own gate, escort and badge rules, so give dispatch your access requirements when you order.
How should Virginia Beach facilities prepare for hurricanes?
Fill generator tanks before the storm and expect roads to close. During Hurricane Matthew in October 2016, a city spokeswoman said almost every road in Virginia Beach was impassable, and more than 260,000 customers lost power across the region.
Do you deliver fuel 24/7 in Virginia Beach?
Yes. FuelGo dispatch runs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, including nights, weekends and holidays. Call 800-720-4546 any time, or request a quote online and a dispatcher replies within the hour.
What fuels can you deliver in Virginia Beach?
Clear on-road diesel (ULSD #2), red-dyed off-road diesel, gasoline, diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) and R99 renewable diesel. Most customers combine two or more on the same delivery.
Do you deliver diesel to generators in Virginia Beach?
Yes. Dyed diesel for standby and prime generators, on a refill schedule or as an emergency run during an outage. Generator fueling →
Do you offer mobile fleet fueling in Virginia Beach?
Yes. We wet-hose trucks and equipment in your yard, usually overnight, and log every gallon by unit. Mobile fleet fueling →
Can you deliver bulk diesel to our tanks in Virginia Beach?
Yes. Anything from 20 gallons to a 7,500-gallon transport load, into above-ground, underground or portable tanks. Bulk delivery →
How much fuel can you deliver at once?
Tank wagon deliveries run from 20 to 4,400 gallons per drop, and full transport loads to 7,500 gallons or more for large bulk tanks. Tell us your tank size and usage and we’ll recommend the right format.
How much is diesel tax in Virginia?
On-road (clear) diesel in Virginia carries $0.6841 per gallon in combined federal and state taxes and fees, and off-road (dyed) diesel $0.0113 per gallon, as of October 16, 2026. Sales and local taxes are extra where they apply. Using dyed diesel on public roads is illegal. See diesel taxes by state →
Do you offer emergency fuel delivery in Virginia Beach?
Yes. If a generator is running low or a site is about to run dry, call 800-720-4546 and a dispatcher will confirm what we can get to you and when.
Can you set up recurring scheduled deliveries?
Yes. Most customers start with a one-time delivery and move to a recurring schedule, so tanks, generators and fleets are topped up before they run low, without anyone having to call it in.
Do you rent fuel tanks?
Yes. We rent diesel and gasoline tanks from 119 to 17,000 gallons, with pumps, meters and hose fitted, and refills on a schedule. See our fuel tank rental page for sizes.
Do you have smaller trucks for tight sites?
Yes. Smaller delivery trucks reach tight urban sites, parking structures and jobsites where a full-size tanker can’t fit.
What payment options do you accept?
Credit cards, ACH and checks. Credit terms are available for qualifying commercial accounts. Ask your dispatcher for details.
