Data center campuses, a river port and a water crisis

Serving City of Richmond, Henrico County, Chesterfield County

Richmond’s newest fuel demand is in eastern Henrico. White Oak Technology Park, at the I-64/I-295 interchange, holds Meta’s Henrico data center and QTS’s Richmond campus. QTS has already built more than 3 million square feet there and plans to grow from 12 buildings to 26. Each building means months of construction, then standby generators that have to stay fueled.

The James River still carries freight. The Richmond Marine Terminal can’t take ocean container ships, so a container barge shuttles boxes to and from Norfolk Harbor, up to three sailings a week by 2018. Between 2008 and 2018 it kept more than a quarter-million truck trips off I-64.

When backup power failed

On January 6, 2025, during a winter storm, Richmond’s water treatment plant lost power. The switch to secondary power failed, then a backup battery ran down. The city was under a boil-water advisory for five days, schools closed and the General Assembly delayed its session. The lesson for any facility: backup power is only as good as its last test.

Mobile fueling or bulk delivery: which fits your Richmond site?

Three delivery formats. We’ll quote whichever fits your volume, site access and cost target.

Wet-Hose Fueling
Mobile fleet fueling
Overnight or day shift, fuel direct to each tank
A driver pulls into your yard after hours, fuels every truck or piece of equipment directly, logs each fill, and clears out before your crews arrive. No staff required on site.
Best for: Trucking fleets, delivery yards, rental fleets and service vehicles.
Tank Wagon Delivery
On-site tank fills
20 – 4,400 gallons per drop · same-day or scheduled
A smaller delivery truck fills your day tank, jobsite bulk tank or generator. The flexible option when volume varies or site access is tight.
Best for: Construction sites, generator refills, day tanks and smaller bulk storage.
Transport Load
Bulk transport delivery
Full transport loads to 7,500+ gallons · scheduled
Tractor-trailer delivery straight into large bulk storage. The lowest cost per gallon for high-volume buyers.
Best for: Data centers, large industrial sites, agriculture and rail yards.

Richmond fuel delivery questions, answered

Do you fuel data center construction in eastern Henrico?
Yes. Data center builds need off-road diesel for equipment and fuel tank rentals on site. Once the halls go live, standby generators can be put on scheduled top-offs with lab fuel testing. Campus sites have their own access rules, so give dispatch your gate and contact when you order.
What did Richmond's January 2025 water crisis show about backup power?
That backup power is a system, not just a generator. When the water plant lost power on January 6, 2025, the switch to secondary power failed and a backup battery ran down, and the city stayed under a boil-water advisory for five days. Keep generator tanks full, keep the fuel tested, and exercise the whole system.
Do you deliver to the Richmond Marine Terminal area?
Yes. We deliver diesel and DEF to drayage fleets, yard equipment and site tanks around the port and the industrial areas along the James. Give dispatch your access requirements when you order.
Do you deliver fuel 24/7 in Richmond?
Yes. FuelGo dispatch runs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, including nights, weekends and holidays. Call 800-720-4546 any time, or request a quote online and a dispatcher replies within the hour.
What fuels can you deliver in Richmond?
Clear on-road diesel (ULSD #2), red-dyed off-road diesel, gasoline, diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) and R99 renewable diesel. Most customers combine two or more on the same delivery.

How much fuel can you deliver at once?
Tank wagon deliveries run from 20 to 4,400 gallons per drop, and full transport loads to 7,500 gallons or more for large bulk tanks. Tell us your tank size and usage and we’ll recommend the right format.
How much is diesel tax in Virginia?
On-road (clear) diesel in Virginia carries $0.6841 per gallon in combined federal and state taxes and fees, and off-road (dyed) diesel $0.0113 per gallon, as of October 16, 2026. Sales and local taxes are extra where they apply. Using dyed diesel on public roads is illegal. See diesel taxes by state →
Do you offer emergency fuel delivery in Richmond?
Yes. If a generator is running low or a site is about to run dry, call 800-720-4546 and a dispatcher will confirm what we can get to you and when.
Can you set up recurring scheduled deliveries?
Yes. Most customers start with a one-time delivery and move to a recurring schedule, so tanks, generators and fleets are topped up before they run low, without anyone having to call it in.
Do you rent fuel tanks?
Yes. We rent diesel and gasoline tanks from 119 to 17,000 gallons, with pumps, meters and hose fitted, and refills on a schedule. See our fuel tank rental page for sizes.
Do you have smaller trucks for tight sites?
Yes. Smaller delivery trucks reach tight urban sites, parking structures and jobsites where a full-size tanker can’t fit.
