Micron's megafab, the I-81 teardown and lake-effect snow

Serving Onondaga County

What Micron calls the largest semiconductor facility in the U.S. is now under construction north of Syracuse. Micron broke ground on January 16, 2026, on its megafab in Clay, in Onondaga County. The plan calls for up to four fabs and $100 billion, the largest private investment in New York history. Production is expected to start in 2030. Until then, the site belongs to earthmovers, cranes, light towers and temporary generators, all burning diesel.

Downtown, NYSDOT is tearing down the 1.4-mile elevated stretch of I-81 and replacing it with a street-level “Community Grid.” Phase one began in spring 2023. Phase two started in July 2026 under a $2.1 billion contract that includes I-690 reconstruction and work on 25 city streets. Contractors on those jobs need fuel brought into the work zone.

Lake-effect snow

Syracuse gets heavy lake-effect snow off Lake Ontario, more than 100 inches in a normal season. Its record season was 1992–93, capped by the March 1993 “Storm of the Century.” Fill generator and equipment tanks before a lake-effect band sets up, and switch to winter-blend diesel early.

Mobile fueling or bulk delivery: which fits your Syracuse site?

Three delivery formats. We’ll quote whichever fits your volume, site access and cost target.

Wet-Hose Fueling
Mobile fleet fueling
Overnight or day shift, fuel direct to each tank
A driver pulls into your yard after hours, fuels every truck or piece of equipment directly, logs each fill, and clears out before your crews arrive. No staff required on site.
Best for: Trucking fleets, delivery yards, rental fleets and service vehicles.
Tank Wagon Delivery
On-site tank fills
20 – 4,400 gallons per drop · same-day or scheduled
A smaller delivery truck fills your day tank, jobsite bulk tank or generator. The flexible option when volume varies or site access is tight.
Best for: Construction sites, generator refills, day tanks and smaller bulk storage.
Transport Load
Bulk transport delivery
Full transport loads to 7,500+ gallons · scheduled
Tractor-trailer delivery straight into large bulk storage. The lowest cost per gallon for high-volume buyers.
Best for: Data centers, large industrial sites, agriculture and rail yards.

Syracuse fuel delivery questions, answered

Do you fuel contractors on the Micron site in Clay?
Yes. Earthmovers, cranes, light towers and site generators can be fueled on site with dyed off-road diesel, from 20 to 4,400 gallons per drop, with transport loads up to 7,500 gallons for bulk tanks. Give dispatch your gate and badge requirements when you order.
Can you fuel equipment inside the I-81 work zones?
Yes, where the contractor's traffic plan allows a fuel truck in. Tell dispatch your access point and work hours. If the job has no storage, ask about a fuel tank rental.
