Reno’s industrial growth sits east of town. The Tahoe Reno Industrial Center covers 107,000 acres in Storey County, south of I-80, and it is the largest industrial park in the country. Tesla’s Gigafactory Nevada is there, along with Switch’s data center campus, Google and distribution centers for Walmart and Home Depot. Union Pacific and BNSF both serve it. Plant yards, warehouse fleets and data center generators all burn diesel.
Fuel from over the mountains
Kinder Morgan’s SFPP North Line pipeline brings gasoline, diesel and jet fuel from Northern California refineries and terminals to the Reno terminal in Sparks. California supplies roughly 88% of Nevada’s gasoline. In April 2026, Valero stopped refining at Benicia in the Bay Area, one of the Bay Area’s refineries.
Trucks face the same mountains. In March 2024, a blizzard closed I-80 over Donner Summit for about three days. On a normal day, Caltrans estimates about 6,200 semi-trucks cross the summit. When Donner closes, freight from California waits. Stored fuel on your own site is the buffer.

Where does Reno's diesel come from?
Mostly from Northern California. Kinder Morgan's SFPP North Line pipeline carries gasoline, diesel and jet fuel from Bay Area refineries and terminals to the Reno terminal in Sparks. With Benicia no longer refining since April 2026, extra fuel stored in your own tanks is worth having.
What happens to deliveries when I-80 closes over Donner?
Freight from California stops at the summit. In March 2024, a blizzard closed I-80 for about three days. Keep tanks topped off before big Sierra storms.

On-road (clear) diesel in Nevada carries $0.5258 per gallon in combined federal and state taxes and fees, and off-road (dyed) diesel $0.0128 per gallon, as of October 16, 2026.
