Railroad HQ, data centers and the 2021 rolling blackouts

Serving Douglas County

Omaha runs a railroad. Union Pacific’s Harriman Dispatch Center, in a renovated 1891 freight depot on Jones Street downtown, is the rail traffic control headquarters for the whole railroad. It monitors trains, track and switches across the country. Rail-served warehouses and the truck fleets around them keep diesel moving in the metro.

Data centers and a fragile winter grid

In 2022, Google announced a $750 million data center near State Street and Blair High Road in northwest Omaha. A build that size runs off-road equipment for months. Once it goes live, it depends on standby generators that have to be fueled and tested.

Cold is the grid risk here. On February 16, 2021, Eppley Airfield hit -23°F, the coldest morning in 25 years. The Southwest Power Pool ordered emergency load cuts across its region. Rolling outages started in Sarpy County at 6:50 a.m. and spread into Douglas County. About 72,000 OPPD customers lost power that morning.

Untreated diesel gels long before -23°F. Winter blend, anti-gel and full generator tanks need to be in place before an arctic front, because the grid itself can come up short.

Mobile fueling or bulk delivery: which fits your Omaha site?

Three delivery formats. We’ll quote whichever fits your volume, site access and cost target.

Wet-Hose Fueling
Mobile fleet fueling
Overnight or day shift, fuel direct to each tank
A driver pulls into your yard after hours, fuels every truck or piece of equipment directly, logs each fill, and clears out before your crews arrive. No staff required on site.
Best for: Trucking fleets, delivery yards, rental fleets and service vehicles.
Tank Wagon Delivery
On-site tank fills
20 – 4,400 gallons per drop · same-day or scheduled
A smaller delivery truck fills your day tank, jobsite bulk tank or generator. The flexible option when volume varies or site access is tight.
Best for: Construction sites, generator refills, day tanks and smaller bulk storage.
Transport Load
Bulk transport delivery
Full transport loads to 7,500+ gallons · scheduled
Tractor-trailer delivery straight into large bulk storage. The lowest cost per gallon for high-volume buyers.
Best for: Data centers, large industrial sites, agriculture and rail yards.
