River terminals, drainage pumps and Ida in New Orleans

Serving Orleans Parish

The Port of New Orleans runs its container business from Napoleon Avenue, on the Mississippi’s east bank. The terminal is rated for 840,000 TEUs a year and has 304 reefer plugs. Its on-dock rail connects to six Class I railroads. Yard tractors, container handlers and drayage trucks work it every day.

Pumps that need their own power

New Orleans drains by pump. The Sewerage & Water Board runs 120 pumps in 24 drainage stations. Fifty-one of them use old 25 Hz power, which the Board produces itself with steam turbines, frequency changers and Electro-Motive Diesel generators. The system needs about 52 megawatts to run fully. In this city, diesel is part of flood control.

Hurricane Ida came ashore on August 29, 2021, as a Category 4 with 150 mph winds. Entergy lost all eight transmission lines delivering power into New Orleans. More than 850,000 Entergy customers in Louisiana lost power, and officials warned some parts of the city could be out for weeks. Every generator in town ran on what was in its tank, plus whatever trucks could bring in through the debris.

Hospitals, high-rises, cold storage and pump stations should all have full tanks and clean fuel before the season’s first storm, and a refill plan for the weeks after.

Mobile fueling or bulk delivery: which fits your New Orleans site?

Three delivery formats. We’ll quote whichever fits your volume, site access and cost target.

Wet-Hose Fueling
Mobile fleet fueling
Overnight or day shift, fuel direct to each tank
A driver pulls into your yard after hours, fuels every truck or piece of equipment directly, logs each fill, and clears out before your crews arrive. No staff required on site.
Best for: Trucking fleets, delivery yards, rental fleets and service vehicles.
Tank Wagon Delivery
On-site tank fills
20 – 4,400 gallons per drop · same-day or scheduled
A smaller delivery truck fills your day tank, jobsite bulk tank or generator. The flexible option when volume varies or site access is tight.
Best for: Construction sites, generator refills, day tanks and smaller bulk storage.
Transport Load
Bulk transport delivery
Full transport loads to 7,500+ gallons · scheduled
Tractor-trailer delivery straight into large bulk storage. The lowest cost per gallon for high-volume buyers.

New Orleans fuel delivery questions, answered

Do you fuel equipment and trucks at the Napoleon Avenue terminal and river yards?
Yes. Yard tractors, container handlers, reefers and drayage trucks can be fueled where they park, with dyed off-road diesel for terminal equipment, clear on-road diesel for trucks and DEF for both.
How should New Orleans sites plan generator fuel for hurricane season?
Plan for weeks, not days. When Ida took out all eight transmission lines into the city in 2021, officials warned some areas could be without power for weeks. We schedule top-offs before landfall and dispatch 24/7/365 after.
Does humid storage hurt standby diesel?
Water is the enemy of stored diesel. We offer fuel polishing, tank cleaning, fuel pump-out and lab fuel testing, so generator fuel is clean when the storm comes.
Do you deliver fuel 24/7 in New Orleans?
Yes. FuelGo dispatch runs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, including nights, weekends and holidays. Call 800-720-4546 any time, or request a quote online and a dispatcher replies within the hour.
What fuels can you deliver in New Orleans?
Clear on-road diesel (ULSD #2), red-dyed off-road diesel, gasoline, diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) and R99 renewable diesel. Most customers combine two or more on the same delivery.
Do you deliver diesel to generators in New Orleans?
Yes. Dyed diesel for standby and prime generators, on a refill schedule or as an emergency run during an outage. Generator fueling →
Do you offer mobile fleet fueling in New Orleans?
Yes. We wet-hose trucks and equipment in your yard, usually overnight, and log every gallon by unit. Mobile fleet fueling →
Can you deliver bulk diesel to our tanks in New Orleans?
Yes. Anything from 20 gallons to a 7,500-gallon transport load, into above-ground, underground or portable tanks. Bulk delivery →
How much fuel can you deliver at once?
Tank wagon deliveries run from 20 to 4,400 gallons per drop, and full transport loads to 7,500 gallons or more for large bulk tanks. Tell us your tank size and usage and we’ll recommend the right format.
How much is diesel tax in Louisiana?
On-road (clear) diesel in Louisiana carries $0.4575 per gallon in combined federal and state taxes and fees, and off-road (dyed) diesel $0.0510 per gallon, as of October 16, 2026. Sales and local taxes are extra where they apply. Using dyed diesel on public roads is illegal. See diesel taxes by state →
Do you offer emergency fuel delivery in New Orleans?
Yes. If a generator is running low or a site is about to run dry, call 800-720-4546 and a dispatcher will confirm what we can get to you and when.
Can you set up recurring scheduled deliveries?
Yes. Most customers start with a one-time delivery and move to a recurring schedule, so tanks, generators and fleets are topped up before they run low, without anyone having to call it in.
Do you rent fuel tanks?
Yes. We rent diesel and gasoline tanks from 119 to 17,000 gallons, with pumps, meters and hose fitted, and refills on a schedule. See our fuel tank rental page for sizes.
Do you have smaller trucks for tight sites?
Yes. Smaller delivery trucks reach tight urban sites, parking structures and jobsites where a full-size tanker can’t fit.
What payment options do you accept?
Credit cards, ACH and checks. Credit terms are available for qualifying commercial accounts. Ask your dispatcher for details.
