Harbor fuel terminals, a 1,541-bed hospital and Nemo

Serving New Haven County

New Haven is where much of Connecticut’s fuel comes ashore. The Port of New Haven is the highest-volume commercial port on Long Island Sound, and it mainly handles petroleum: gasoline, heating oil, diesel and jet fuel. Terminals along the harbor hold 209 storage tanks with about 10.4 million barrels of capacity. The Buckeye pipeline carries product up to 85 miles north, as far as Hartford and Bradley International Airport. The port sits where I-95 meets I-91, with freight rail access.

Yale New Haven Hospital is the other anchor. With 1,541 beds on two campuses, it is one of the largest hospitals in the country and a Level I trauma center for adults and children. Hospital generators, central plants and Yale’s campus all depend on standby diesel.

The 2013 blizzard

On February 8 to 9, 2013, a blizzard buried the New Haven area. Hamden, next door, recorded 40 inches, the top total in Connecticut. The governor closed limited-access highways statewide, then ordered every road closed except to essential vehicles. When roads close, the fuel already in your tank is what you have. Fill generators and equipment before the first flakes fall.

Three delivery formats. We’ll quote whichever fits your volume, site access and cost target.

Wet-Hose Fueling
Mobile fleet fueling
Overnight or day shift, fuel direct to each tank
A driver pulls into your yard after hours, fuels every truck or piece of equipment directly, logs each fill, and clears out before your crews arrive. No staff required on site.
Best for: Trucking fleets, delivery yards, rental fleets and service vehicles.
Tank Wagon Delivery
On-site tank fills
20 – 4,400 gallons per drop · same-day or scheduled
A smaller delivery truck fills your day tank, jobsite bulk tank or generator. The flexible option when volume varies or site access is tight.
Best for: Construction sites, generator refills, day tanks and smaller bulk storage.

New Haven fuel delivery questions, answered

Do you fuel trucks and equipment around the New Haven harbor terminals?
Yes. We fuel trucks, yard equipment and site tanks where they sit, with clear on-road diesel, dyed off-road diesel and DEF, from 20 to 4,400 gallons per drop.
Do you refuel hospital and campus generators in New Haven on a schedule?
Yes. We top off day tanks and main tanks on a set schedule and run 24/7/365 dispatch. Fuel polishing and lab fuel testing keep standby fuel that sits all year ready to burn.
Can you deliver during a Connecticut travel ban?
Plan to fill before it starts. In February 2013, the governor closed limited-access highways statewide, then all roads except to essential vehicles. Top off generators and equipment when the storm is forecast.
Do you deliver fuel 24/7 in New Haven?
Yes. FuelGo dispatch runs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, including nights, weekends and holidays. Call 800-720-4546 any time, or request a quote online and a dispatcher replies within the hour.

Clear on-road diesel (ULSD #2), red-dyed off-road diesel, gasoline, diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) and R99 renewable diesel. Most customers combine two or more on the same delivery.

How much fuel can you deliver at once?

How much is diesel tax in Connecticut?
On-road (clear) diesel in Connecticut carries $0.7473 per gallon in combined federal and state taxes and fees, and off-road (dyed) diesel $0.4973 per gallon, as of October 16, 2026. Sales and local taxes are extra where they apply. Using dyed diesel on public roads is illegal. See diesel taxes by state →

Can you set up recurring scheduled deliveries?
Yes. Most customers start with a one-time delivery and move to a recurring schedule, so tanks, generators and fleets are topped up before they run low, without anyone having to call it in.
Do you rent fuel tanks?
Yes. We rent diesel and gasoline tanks from 119 to 17,000 gallons, with pumps, meters and hose fitted, and refills on a schedule. See our fuel tank rental page for sizes.
Do you have smaller trucks for tight sites?
Yes. Smaller delivery trucks reach tight urban sites, parking structures and jobsites where a full-size tanker can’t fit.
What payment options do you accept?
Credit cards, ACH and checks. Credit terms are available for qualifying commercial accounts. Ask your dispatcher for details.
