Banana boats, Seabees and Katrina's surge in Gulfport

Serving Harrison County

Gulfport runs on its harbor. The Mississippi State Port Authority operates a 300-acre deepwater port on the Gulf and a 116-acre inland port facility. Bananas, pineapples and other fresh produce from Latin America come in through Gulfport. Fresh fruit moves in refrigerated containers, and reefer units burn diesel from the ship to the warehouse.

The Navy is the other big fuel user. The Naval Construction Battalion Center is a 1,100-acre industrial complex in Gulfport and the home base of the Atlantic Fleet Seabees, the Navy’s construction battalions. It has been here since 1942. Contractors working on and around the base keep heavy equipment, generators and support fleets running.

What Katrina did to the port

Hurricane Katrina came ashore on August 29, 2005. Its storm surge along the eastern half of the Mississippi coast, from Gulfport to Pascagoula, reached 17 to 22 feet. A Congressional Research Service report said the Port of Gulfport took a direct hit, had the severest structural damage of any port, and would have to be completely rebuilt. For coast operators, the lesson is fuel on site before landfall and a supplier who can come back in after.

Three delivery formats. We’ll quote whichever fits your volume, site access and cost target.

Wet-Hose Fueling
Mobile fleet fueling
Overnight or day shift, fuel direct to each tank
A driver pulls into your yard after hours, fuels every truck or piece of equipment directly, logs each fill, and clears out before your crews arrive. No staff required on site.
Best for: Trucking fleets, delivery yards, rental fleets and service vehicles.
Tank Wagon Delivery
On-site tank fills
20 – 4,400 gallons per drop · same-day or scheduled
A smaller delivery truck fills your day tank, jobsite bulk tank or generator. The flexible option when volume varies or site access is tight.
Best for: Construction sites, generator refills, day tanks and smaller bulk storage.
Transport Load
Bulk transport delivery
Full transport loads to 7,500+ gallons · scheduled
