Medical Mile, a record airport and the 2013 Grand River

Serving Kent County

Grand Rapids’ biggest standby loads sit on the Medical Mile along Michigan Street. Corewell Health Butterworth Hospital there runs a Level I trauma center for both adults and children. Corewell plans a 621,000-square-foot addition with a new emergency department, 180 private beds and 12 to 16 operating rooms, due by 2030. That means a long build now and more generator load later.

Gerald R. Ford International Airport keeps setting records. It handled 4,172,068 passengers in 2024, its first year over 4 million, plus more than 65 million pounds of cargo. Ground equipment and the cargo trucks serving the airport run on diesel and need DEF.

The river is the weather risk

On April 21, 2013, the Grand River crested at 21.85 feet in Grand Rapids, the highest on record. Some 1,000 people left Plaza Towers downtown. Wastewater plants in Grand Rapids, Grandville and Wyoming were hit, and Grand Rapids’ plant discharged about 429 million gallons of partially treated water. Property damage passed $10 million.

Sites along the river should fill generator tanks before a crest, not during it. Stored fuel in tanks near the water should be tested for water, too.

Mobile fueling or bulk delivery: which fits your Grand Rapids site?

Three delivery formats. We’ll quote whichever fits your volume, site access and cost target.

Wet-Hose Fueling
Mobile fleet fueling
Overnight or day shift, fuel direct to each tank
A driver pulls into your yard after hours, fuels every truck or piece of equipment directly, logs each fill, and clears out before your crews arrive. No staff required on site.
Best for: Trucking fleets, delivery yards, rental fleets and service vehicles.
Tank Wagon Delivery
On-site tank fills
20 – 4,400 gallons per drop · same-day or scheduled
A smaller delivery truck fills your day tank, jobsite bulk tank or generator. The flexible option when volume varies or site access is tight.
Best for: Construction sites, generator refills, day tanks and smaller bulk storage.
Transport Load
Bulk transport delivery
Full transport loads to 7,500+ gallons · scheduled
Tractor-trailer delivery straight into large bulk storage. The lowest cost per gallon for high-volume buyers.
Best for: Data centers, large industrial sites, agriculture and rail yards.

Grand Rapids fuel delivery questions, answered

Do you refuel hospital generators on the Medical Mile?
Yes. We top off generator day tanks and main tanks on a set schedule and run 24/7/365 dispatch for outages. Fuel polishing and lab fuel testing keep stored diesel ready to run.
Should sites near the Grand River fuel up before a flood crest?
Yes. When the river crested at a record 21.85 feet in April 2013, about 1,000 people evacuated Plaza Towers downtown. Fill generator tanks while the roads are still open.
Can you supply construction fuel for big builds in Grand Rapids?
Yes. We deliver off-road diesel into excavators, cranes and site generators, from 20 to 4,400 gallons per drop. Sites without storage can add a fuel tank rental.

Yes. FuelGo dispatch runs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, including nights, weekends and holidays. Call 800-720-4546 any time, or request a quote online and a dispatcher replies within the hour.

Yes. We rent diesel and gasoline tanks from 119 to 17,000 gallons, with pumps, meters and hose fitted, and refills on a schedule. See our fuel tank rental page for sizes.
