Assembly plants, a new bridge and ice storms in Detroit

Serving Wayne County

Detroit still builds vehicles inside city limits. Stellantis runs the Detroit Assembly Complex on the east side, where the Mack and Jefferson plants build Jeep Grand Cherokees and Dodge Durangos. GM’s Factory Zero builds electric pickups on East Grand Boulevard. Supplier yards and carriers around them keep parts moving on diesel.

Michigan’s only oil refinery is in southwest Detroit too. Marathon’s plant sits beside the Rouge River and makes gasoline, distillates and asphalt.

A bridge built for fuel loads

The Ambassador Bridge carries more than a quarter of U.S.-Canada merchandise trade by value. For 30 years it kept out flammable-liquid loads, which went to a truck ferry or to Port Huron. The ferry shut down in 2023. On July 27, 2026, the Gordie Howe International Bridge opened with a direct connection to I-75. It is built for all nine hazmat classes, with 24 hours’ notice to its traffic center.

Detroit’s weather risk is ice. In February 2023, an ice storm brought down lines across Southeast Michigan and left 518,000 DTE customers without power at the peak. Restoring them took days.

Mobile fueling or bulk delivery: which fits your Detroit site?

Three delivery formats. We’ll quote whichever fits your volume, site access and cost target.

Wet-Hose Fueling
Mobile fleet fueling
Overnight or day shift, fuel direct to each tank
A driver pulls into your yard after hours, fuels every truck or piece of equipment directly, logs each fill, and clears out before your crews arrive. No staff required on site.
Best for: Trucking fleets, delivery yards, rental fleets and service vehicles.
Tank Wagon Delivery
On-site tank fills
20 – 4,400 gallons per drop · same-day or scheduled
A smaller delivery truck fills your day tank, jobsite bulk tank or generator. The flexible option when volume varies or site access is tight.
Best for: Construction sites, generator refills, day tanks and smaller bulk storage.
Transport Load
Bulk transport delivery
Full transport loads to 7,500+ gallons · scheduled
Tractor-trailer delivery straight into large bulk storage. The lowest cost per gallon for high-volume buyers.
Best for: Data centers, large industrial sites, agriculture and rail yards.

Detroit fuel delivery questions, answered

Can fuel trucks cross between Detroit and Windsor?
Since July 27, 2026 the Gordie Howe International Bridge has been open, and it is designed for all nine classes of hazardous materials. Carriers must call the bridge's Traffic Management Centre at least 24 hours before crossing with a hazmat load. For many years before that, fuel loads were kept off the Ambassador Bridge and used the truck ferry or the Blue Water Bridge in Port Huron.
Do you fuel trucks and yard equipment at Detroit plants and supplier yards?
Yes. Mobile fleet fueling (wet-hosing) fuels parked tractors, yard trucks and equipment on site between shifts, with DEF on the same visit. Plants have their own gate and safety rules, so give dispatch your contact and entry requirements when you order.
How should Detroit facilities prepare generators for an ice storm?
Fill standby tanks before the forecast turns, and test stored fuel ahead of winter. In February 2023, ice brought down lines across Southeast Michigan and DTE had 518,000 customers out at the peak. Some were dark for days.
Do you deliver fuel 24/7 in Detroit?
Yes. FuelGo dispatch runs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, including nights, weekends and holidays. Call 800-720-4546 any time, or request a quote online and a dispatcher replies within the hour.
What fuels can you deliver in Detroit?
Clear on-road diesel (ULSD #2), red-dyed off-road diesel, gasoline, diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) and R99 renewable diesel. Most customers combine two or more on the same delivery.
Do you deliver diesel to generators in Detroit?
Yes. Dyed diesel for standby and prime generators, on a refill schedule or as an emergency run during an outage. Generator fueling →
Do you offer mobile fleet fueling in Detroit?
Yes. We wet-hose trucks and equipment in your yard, usually overnight, and log every gallon by unit. Mobile fleet fueling →
Can you deliver bulk diesel to our tanks in Detroit?
Yes. Anything from 20 gallons to a 7,500-gallon transport load, into above-ground, underground or portable tanks. Bulk delivery →
How much fuel can you deliver at once?
Tank wagon deliveries run from 20 to 4,400 gallons per drop, and full transport loads to 7,500 gallons or more for large bulk tanks. Tell us your tank size and usage and we’ll recommend the right format.
How much is diesel tax in Michigan?
On-road (clear) diesel in Michigan carries $0.7823 per gallon in combined federal and state taxes and fees, and off-road (dyed) diesel $0.0753 per gallon, as of October 16, 2026. Sales and local taxes are extra where they apply. Using dyed diesel on public roads is illegal. See diesel taxes by state →
Do you offer emergency fuel delivery in Detroit?
Yes. If a generator is running low or a site is about to run dry, call 800-720-4546 and a dispatcher will confirm what we can get to you and when.
Can you set up recurring scheduled deliveries?
Yes. Most customers start with a one-time delivery and move to a recurring schedule, so tanks, generators and fleets are topped up before they run low, without anyone having to call it in.
Do you rent fuel tanks?
Yes. We rent diesel and gasoline tanks from 119 to 17,000 gallons, with pumps, meters and hose fitted, and refills on a schedule. See our fuel tank rental page for sizes.
Do you have smaller trucks for tight sites?
Yes. Smaller delivery trucks reach tight urban sites, parking structures and jobsites where a full-size tanker can’t fit.
What payment options do you accept?
Credit cards, ACH and checks. Credit terms are available for qualifying commercial accounts. Ask your dispatcher for details.
