Fort Jackson, Malfunction Junction and the 2015 flood

Serving Richland County, Lexington County

Fort Jackson is the Army’s largest initial entry training center. It trains roughly half of all soldiers entering the Army each year, more than 45,000 in basic training alone. A post that size runs on vehicles, generators and contractor work crews.

Columbia is also where I-20, I-26 and I-77 meet. The I-20/I-26 interchange earned the name “Malfunction Junction.” SCDOT’s Carolina Crossroads project is rebuilding the corridor for more than $1.7 billion, the largest infrastructure project in the state’s history. It carries about 237,000 vehicles a day. The main interchange rebuild is not scheduled to start until 2030, so contractor equipment and lane shifts will be part of the corridor for years.

The October 2015 flood

From October 1 to 5, 2015, a stalled storm dumped historic rain on the Midlands. A Forest Acres gauge recorded 10.64 inches in four hours. Gills Creek, on the city’s east side, crested at 19.6 feet, 10 feet higher than its previous record. At least four dams in its watershed failed. Sites in low-lying parts of Richland County should keep generator tanks full and plan for roads closing without warning.

Mobile fueling or bulk delivery: which fits your Columbia site?

Three delivery formats. We’ll quote whichever fits your volume, site access and cost target.

Wet-Hose Fueling
Mobile fleet fueling
Overnight or day shift, fuel direct to each tank
A driver pulls into your yard after hours, fuels every truck or piece of equipment directly, logs each fill, and clears out before your crews arrive. No staff required on site.
Best for: Trucking fleets, delivery yards, rental fleets and service vehicles.
Tank Wagon Delivery
On-site tank fills
20 – 4,400 gallons per drop · same-day or scheduled
A smaller delivery truck fills your day tank, jobsite bulk tank or generator. The flexible option when volume varies or site access is tight.
Best for: Construction sites, generator refills, day tanks and smaller bulk storage.
Transport Load
Bulk transport delivery
Full transport loads to 7,500+ gallons · scheduled
Tractor-trailer delivery straight into large bulk storage. The lowest cost per gallon for high-volume buyers.
Best for: Data centers, large industrial sites, agriculture and rail yards.

Columbia fuel delivery questions, answered

Do you fuel contractor equipment on the Carolina Crossroads work zones?

Can you keep generators running if Columbia floods again?
Yes. We schedule generator top-offs ahead of storms and dispatch 24/7/365 for emergencies. In October 2015, Gills Creek crested 10 feet above its previous record, so plan fuel for days of road closures.
