A 52-foot harbor, king tides and Hugo in Charleston

Serving Charleston County, Berkeley County

Charleston Harbor has been 52 feet deep since December 2022, the deepest on the East Coast. The biggest ships calling the coast can reach SC Ports’ terminals at any tide. The newest, the Hugh K. Leatherman Terminal, opened in 2021 on the former Navy Base along the Cooper River. Its ship-to-shore cranes are electric. The drayage trucks, yard tractors and empty-container handlers moving its boxes still run on diesel.

Water in the streets

On the peninsula, the routing problem is tide, not traffic. Minor flooding starts when the Charleston Harbor gauge reaches about 7 feet. In 2019 it hit that mark a record 89 times. On December 17, 2023, a nor’easter pushed the highest non-tropical tide on record into the city. Nearly 40 roads closed, and parts of Calhoun and East Bay streets in the medical district went waist-deep. Hospitals and businesses there need generator fuel delivered before the water comes up, not during it.

Hurricanes are the other risk. Hugo came ashore at Sullivan’s Island as a Category 4 around midnight on September 22, 1989, at high tide. Its storm tide is still the highest on record at the Charleston gauge.

Mobile fueling or bulk delivery: which fits your Charleston site?

Three delivery formats. We’ll quote whichever fits your volume, site access and cost target.

Wet-Hose Fueling
Mobile fleet fueling
Overnight or day shift, fuel direct to each tank
A driver pulls into your yard after hours, fuels every truck or piece of equipment directly, logs each fill, and clears out before your crews arrive. No staff required on site.
Best for: Trucking fleets, delivery yards, rental fleets and service vehicles.
Tank Wagon Delivery
On-site tank fills
20 – 4,400 gallons per drop · same-day or scheduled
A smaller delivery truck fills your day tank, jobsite bulk tank or generator. The flexible option when volume varies or site access is tight.
Best for: Construction sites, generator refills, day tanks and smaller bulk storage.
Transport Load
Bulk transport delivery
Full transport loads to 7,500+ gallons · scheduled
Tractor-trailer delivery straight into large bulk storage. The lowest cost per gallon for high-volume buyers.
Best for: Data centers, large industrial sites, agriculture and rail yards.

Charleston fuel delivery questions, answered

Do you fuel drayage trucks and terminal equipment around the Charleston port?
Yes. Drayage tractors, yard trucks and container handlers can be fueled where they park, with clear on-road diesel for trucks, dyed off-road diesel for terminal equipment and DEF for both.
Can you get fuel to peninsula sites when the tide floods the streets?
Plan around it. Minor tidal flooding starts when the harbor gauge reaches about 7 feet, and on December 17, 2023, a nor'easter closed nearly 40 roads, including parts of Calhoun and East Bay streets. Order ahead of a forecast high tide so generator tanks are full before the water arrives.
Do you top off generators before hurricane season?
Yes. We schedule generator top-offs ahead of storms and run 24/7/365 dispatch for outages and emergencies.
Do you deliver fuel 24/7 in Charleston?
Yes. FuelGo dispatch runs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, including nights, weekends and holidays. Call 800-720-4546 any time, or request a quote online and a dispatcher replies within the hour.
What fuels can you deliver in Charleston?
Clear on-road diesel (ULSD #2), red-dyed off-road diesel, gasoline, diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) and R99 renewable diesel. Most customers combine two or more on the same delivery.
Do you deliver diesel to generators in Charleston?
Yes. Dyed diesel for standby and prime generators, on a refill schedule or as an emergency run during an outage. Generator fueling →
Do you offer mobile fleet fueling in Charleston?

Can you deliver bulk diesel to our tanks in Charleston?

How much fuel can you deliver at once?
Tank wagon deliveries run from 20 to 4,400 gallons per drop, and full transport loads to 7,500 gallons or more for large bulk tanks. Tell us your tank size and usage and we’ll recommend the right format.
How much is diesel tax in South Carolina?
On-road (clear) diesel in South Carolina carries $0.5358 per gallon in combined federal and state taxes and fees, and off-road (dyed) diesel $0.0128 per gallon, as of October 16, 2026. Sales and local taxes are extra where they apply. Using dyed diesel on public roads is illegal. See diesel taxes by state →
Do you offer emergency fuel delivery in Charleston?
Yes. If a generator is running low or a site is about to run dry, call 800-720-4546 and a dispatcher will confirm what we can get to you and when.
Can you set up recurring scheduled deliveries?
Yes. Most customers start with a one-time delivery and move to a recurring schedule, so tanks, generators and fleets are topped up before they run low, without anyone having to call it in.
Do you rent fuel tanks?
Yes. We rent diesel and gasoline tanks from 119 to 17,000 gallons, with pumps, meters and hose fitted, and refills on a schedule. See our fuel tank rental page for sizes.
Do you have smaller trucks for tight sites?
Yes. Smaller delivery trucks reach tight urban sites, parking structures and jobsites where a full-size tanker can’t fit.
What payment options do you accept?
Credit cards, ACH and checks. Credit terms are available for qualifying commercial accounts. Ask your dispatcher for details.
