Cheyenne has become a data center town. Microsoft already runs data centers here, and Meta has been building one. Crusoe and Tallgrass are planning an AI campus just outside the city that starts at 1.8 gigawatts and could scale to 10, with its own gas-fired power. Every data hall needs backup generators, and every backup generator needs fuel that is fresh, tested and topped off.
F.E. Warren Air Force Base runs 150 Minuteman III silos spread across Wyoming, Nebraska and Colorado. The Air Force is converting them to the Sentinel system, a program now estimated at about $141 billion that consolidates launch centers and runs new fiber-optic cable across the missile field. That is a long run of construction equipment and contractor fleets working far from any fuel stop.
Where I-80 meets I-25
I-25 and I-80 meet at a cloverleaf interchange in Cheyenne, and I-25 crosses the Union Pacific yard on a viaduct. Fleets based here run long highway miles in both directions.
Renewable diesel is made here, too. HF Sinclair converted its Cheyenne refinery to a renewable diesel unit in 2021. The unit processes soybean oil and animal fats into about 6,000 barrels a day of renewable diesel.
