Pipeline fuel, a fast-growing county and Fran in Raleigh

Serving Wake County

Raleigh’s fuel comes in by pipeline. North Carolina has no petroleum refineries. Gasoline and diesel arrive from the Gulf Coast on the Colonial and Plantation pipelines, and local distributors load at terminals such as Selma and Apex. Colonial alone supplies at least 70% of the Southeast’s fuel. In May 2021, a cyberattack shut it down. By the evening of May 13, 70% of the state’s gas stations were dry.

A county that keeps building

Wake County is the most populous county in North Carolina, and it grew about 11% between 2020 and 2025, to roughly 1.26 million people. Every new subdivision, road widening and school needs excavators, loaders and light towers, and those run on off-road diesel.

Hurricanes reach this far inland. Hurricane Fran made landfall on September 5, 1996, and tore through the Triangle that night. It knocked out power to 1.7 million customers statewide, and Wake County alone reported more than $900 million in property damage. Some homes waited weeks for power.

Mobile fueling or bulk delivery: which fits your Raleigh site?

Three delivery formats. We’ll quote whichever fits your volume, site access and cost target.

Wet-Hose Fueling
Mobile fleet fueling
Overnight or day shift, fuel direct to each tank
A driver pulls into your yard after hours, fuels every truck or piece of equipment directly, logs each fill, and clears out before your crews arrive. No staff required on site.
Best for: Trucking fleets, delivery yards, rental fleets and service vehicles.
Tank Wagon Delivery
On-site tank fills
20 – 4,400 gallons per drop · same-day or scheduled
A smaller delivery truck fills your day tank, jobsite bulk tank or generator. The flexible option when volume varies or site access is tight.
Best for: Construction sites, generator refills, day tanks and smaller bulk storage.
Transport Load
Bulk transport delivery
Full transport loads to 7,500+ gallons · scheduled
Tractor-trailer delivery straight into large bulk storage. The lowest cost per gallon for high-volume buyers.

Raleigh fuel delivery questions, answered

What happens to fuel supply in Raleigh if the Colonial Pipeline shuts down?
Stations run dry fast. North Carolina has no refineries, so its fuel comes up the Colonial and Plantation pipelines from the Gulf Coast. When Colonial shut down after a cyberattack in May 2021, 70% of the state's gas stations were out of fuel by May 13. Fuel already in your own tanks is what keeps you running through a gap like that.
Do you deliver to construction sites across Wake County?
Yes. We deliver off-road diesel to equipment and site tanks, and fuel tank rentals for longer jobs. Give dispatch your site address, gate and contact when you order.
How should Raleigh facilities prepare for a hurricane this far inland?
Take it seriously. Hurricane Fran in 1996 caused more than $900 million in property damage in Wake County alone, and some homes waited weeks for power to return. Fill standby generator tanks when a storm is forecast, before the roads fill with debris.
Do you deliver fuel 24/7 in Raleigh?
Yes. FuelGo dispatch runs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, including nights, weekends and holidays. Call 800-720-4546 any time, or request a quote online and a dispatcher replies within the hour.
What fuels can you deliver in Raleigh?
Clear on-road diesel (ULSD #2), red-dyed off-road diesel, gasoline, diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) and R99 renewable diesel. Most customers combine two or more on the same delivery.
Do you deliver diesel to generators in Raleigh?
Yes. Dyed diesel for standby and prime generators, on a refill schedule or as an emergency run during an outage. Generator fueling →
Do you offer mobile fleet fueling in Raleigh?
Yes. We wet-hose trucks and equipment in your yard, usually overnight, and log every gallon by unit. Mobile fleet fueling →
Can you deliver bulk diesel to our tanks in Raleigh?
Yes. Anything from 20 gallons to a 7,500-gallon transport load, into above-ground, underground or portable tanks. Bulk delivery →
How much fuel can you deliver at once?
Tank wagon deliveries run from 20 to 4,400 gallons per drop, and full transport loads to 7,500 gallons or more for large bulk tanks. Tell us your tank size and usage and we’ll recommend the right format.
How much is diesel tax in North Carolina?
On-road (clear) diesel in North Carolina carries $0.6608 per gallon in combined federal and state taxes and fees, and off-road (dyed) diesel $0.0053 per gallon, as of October 16, 2026. Sales and local taxes are extra where they apply. Using dyed diesel on public roads is illegal. See diesel taxes by state →
Do you offer emergency fuel delivery in Raleigh?
Yes. If a generator is running low or a site is about to run dry, call 800-720-4546 and a dispatcher will confirm what we can get to you and when.
Can you set up recurring scheduled deliveries?
Yes. Most customers start with a one-time delivery and move to a recurring schedule, so tanks, generators and fleets are topped up before they run low, without anyone having to call it in.
Do you rent fuel tanks?
Yes. We rent diesel and gasoline tanks from 119 to 17,000 gallons, with pumps, meters and hose fitted, and refills on a schedule. See our fuel tank rental page for sizes.
Do you have smaller trucks for tight sites?
Yes. Smaller delivery trucks reach tight urban sites, parking structures and jobsites where a full-size tanker can’t fit.
What payment options do you accept?
Credit cards, ACH and checks. Credit terms are available for qualifying commercial accounts. Ask your dispatcher for details.
