Port fuel terminals, a closed bridge and hurricane gates

Serving Providence County

Providence is where Rhode Island’s fuel comes ashore. Terminals at the Port of Providence supply virtually all of the heating oil for Rhode Island, Worcester County, Cape Cod and eastern Connecticut. They are also the state’s only source of residual fuel oil for hospitals, universities and utilities.

A missing span on I-195

On December 11, 2023, RIDOT closed the westbound Washington Bridge after engineers found a critical failure in its components. It had carried about 90,000 drivers a day from the East Bay and Southeastern Massachusetts into the city. Westbound traffic was shifted onto the eastbound span. In-water work on the replacement began in June 2026, and it isn’t due to open until November 2028. Fuel trucks for city sites have to plan around that crossing.

Coastal storms are the weather risk. The 1938 hurricane flooded downtown entirely, and Hurricane Carol in 1954 put up to 8 feet of water in parts of it. The Fox Point Hurricane Barrier went up across the Providence River after that, finished in 1966.

Mobile fueling or bulk delivery: which fits your Providence site?

Three delivery formats. We’ll quote whichever fits your volume, site access and cost target.

Wet-Hose Fueling
Mobile fleet fueling
Overnight or day shift, fuel direct to each tank
A driver pulls into your yard after hours, fuels every truck or piece of equipment directly, logs each fill, and clears out before your crews arrive. No staff required on site.
Best for: Trucking fleets, delivery yards, rental fleets and service vehicles.
Tank Wagon Delivery
On-site tank fills
20 – 4,400 gallons per drop · same-day or scheduled
A smaller delivery truck fills your day tank, jobsite bulk tank or generator. The flexible option when volume varies or site access is tight.
Best for: Construction sites, generator refills, day tanks and smaller bulk storage.
Transport Load
Bulk transport delivery
Full transport loads to 7,500+ gallons · scheduled
Tractor-trailer delivery straight into large bulk storage. The lowest cost per gallon for high-volume buyers.
Best for: Data centers, large industrial sites, agriculture and rail yards.

Providence fuel delivery questions, answered

How does the Washington Bridge closure affect fuel deliveries in Providence?
It can add time on I-195 between East Providence and the city. The westbound bridge closed in December 2023, westbound traffic was shifted onto the eastbound span, and the replacement isn't due until November 2028. Give dispatch a wide delivery window or schedule off-peak if your site is near the corridor.
Do you deliver to waterfront and industrial sites in Providence?
Yes. We deliver diesel and DEF to yard trucks, equipment and site tanks at waterfront and industrial sites. Terminals and port tenants have their own gate and safety rules, so give dispatch your access requirements when you order.
Should Providence facilities prepare generators for hurricane season?
Yes. The Fox Point Hurricane Barrier was built after the 1938 hurricane and Hurricane Carol in 1954 put up to 8 feet of water into parts of downtown. Fill standby generator tanks before a storm watch, not after.
Do you deliver fuel 24/7 in Providence?
Yes. FuelGo dispatch runs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, including nights, weekends and holidays. Call 800-720-4546 any time, or request a quote online and a dispatcher replies within the hour.
What fuels can you deliver in Providence?
Clear on-road diesel (ULSD #2), red-dyed off-road diesel, gasoline, diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) and R99 renewable diesel. Most customers combine two or more on the same delivery.
Do you deliver diesel to generators in Providence?
Yes. Dyed diesel for standby and prime generators, on a refill schedule or as an emergency run during an outage. Generator fueling →
Do you offer mobile fleet fueling in Providence?
Yes. We wet-hose trucks and equipment in your yard, usually overnight, and log every gallon by unit. Mobile fleet fueling →
Can you deliver bulk diesel to our tanks in Providence?
Yes. Anything from 20 gallons to a 7,500-gallon transport load, into above-ground, underground or portable tanks. Bulk delivery →
How much fuel can you deliver at once?
Tank wagon deliveries run from 20 to 4,400 gallons per drop, and full transport loads to 7,500 gallons or more for large bulk tanks. Tell us your tank size and usage and we’ll recommend the right format.
How much is diesel tax in Rhode Island?
On-road (clear) diesel in Rhode Island carries $0.6495 per gallon in combined federal and state taxes and fees, and off-road (dyed) diesel $0.4065 per gallon, as of October 16, 2026. Sales and local taxes are extra where they apply. Using dyed diesel on public roads is illegal. See diesel taxes by state →
Do you offer emergency fuel delivery in Providence?
Yes. If a generator is running low or a site is about to run dry, call 800-720-4546 and a dispatcher will confirm what we can get to you and when.
Can you set up recurring scheduled deliveries?
Yes. Most customers start with a one-time delivery and move to a recurring schedule, so tanks, generators and fleets are topped up before they run low, without anyone having to call it in.
Do you rent fuel tanks?
Yes. We rent diesel and gasoline tanks from 119 to 17,000 gallons, with pumps, meters and hose fitted, and refills on a schedule. See our fuel tank rental page for sizes.
Do you have smaller trucks for tight sites?
Yes. Smaller delivery trucks reach tight urban sites, parking structures and jobsites where a full-size tanker can’t fit.
What payment options do you accept?
Credit cards, ACH and checks. Credit terms are available for qualifying commercial accounts. Ask your dispatcher for details.
