B20 summers, B5 winters and -28°F mornings in Minneapolis

Serving Hennepin County

Minneapolis diesel is not the same fuel all year. Minnesota was the first state to require biodiesel, and the minimum blend follows the calendar. No. 2 diesel carries at least 5% biodiesel from October through March. It steps to 10% on April 1 and to 20% from April 15 through September 30. Then it drops back to 5% on October 1, ahead of the cold.

Much of it is refined just south of the city. The Pine Bend refinery in Rosemount and Inver Grove Heights supplies more than half of Minnesota’s gasoline and diesel. It is the largest U.S. refinery in a state with no oil wells.

Cold that tests every tank

On January 30, 2019, the Twin Cities hit -28°F, the coldest air temperature there since 1996. That kind of morning finds every weak point: water in a tank, a filter near its limit, a summer-blend load that never got used. Fuel stored since September is the bigger risk. It went into the tank as B20 and has to perform in January.

Mobile fueling or bulk delivery: which fits your Minneapolis site?

Three delivery formats. We’ll quote whichever fits your volume, site access and cost target.

Wet-Hose Fueling
Mobile fleet fueling
Overnight or day shift, fuel direct to each tank
A driver pulls into your yard after hours, fuels every truck or piece of equipment directly, logs each fill, and clears out before your crews arrive. No staff required on site.
Best for: Trucking fleets, delivery yards, rental fleets and service vehicles.
Tank Wagon Delivery
On-site tank fills
20 – 4,400 gallons per drop · same-day or scheduled
A smaller delivery truck fills your day tank, jobsite bulk tank or generator. The flexible option when volume varies or site access is tight.
Best for: Construction sites, generator refills, day tanks and smaller bulk storage.
Transport Load
Bulk transport delivery
Full transport loads to 7,500+ gallons · scheduled
Tractor-trailer delivery straight into large bulk storage. The lowest cost per gallon for high-volume buyers.
Best for: Data centers, large industrial sites, agriculture and rail yards.

Minneapolis fuel delivery questions, answered

Is the diesel you deliver in Minneapolis blended with biodiesel?
No. 2 diesel sold in Minnesota must carry a minimum biodiesel blend that changes with the season: at least 5% from October 1 to March 31, 10% for the first two weeks of April, and 20% from April 15 to September 30. Ask dispatch what blend is in the load if your equipment maker has blend limits.
What about fuel that sits in a generator tank across the season change?
Fuel bought in September can still be in the tank in January. A summer blend carries more biodiesel than the winter minimum, so stored fuel deserves a look before the first deep freeze. We offer lab fuel testing and fuel polishing, and can top tanks off with current-season fuel.
Can you deliver during a Minneapolis cold snap?
Dispatch runs 24/7/365. Order before the arctic air arrives when you can. On January 30, 2019, the Twin Cities hit -28°F, the coldest reading there since 1996.
Do you deliver fuel 24/7 in Minneapolis?
Yes. FuelGo dispatch runs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, including nights, weekends and holidays. Call 800-720-4546 any time, or request a quote online and a dispatcher replies within the hour.

How much fuel can you deliver at once?

How much is diesel tax in Minnesota?
On-road (clear) diesel in Minnesota carries $0.5953 per gallon in combined federal and state taxes and fees, and off-road (dyed) diesel $0.0263 per gallon, as of October 16, 2026. Sales and local taxes are extra where they apply. Using dyed diesel on public roads is illegal. See diesel taxes by state →

Can you set up recurring scheduled deliveries?
Yes. Most customers start with a one-time delivery and move to a recurring schedule, so tanks, generators and fleets are topped up before they run low, without anyone having to call it in.
Do you rent fuel tanks?
Yes. We rent diesel and gasoline tanks from 119 to 17,000 gallons, with pumps, meters and hose fitted, and refills on a schedule. See our fuel tank rental page for sizes.
Do you have smaller trucks for tight sites?
