Louisville’s fuel demand runs on freight. UPS Worldport, the company’s global air hub, covers 5.2 million square feet and sorts more than 400,000 packages an hour. About 300 flights a day feed it. Ground equipment, tugs and the trucks that move freight to and from the hub run around the clock.
Ford builds trucks here at scale. Kentucky Truck Plant turns out Super Duty pickups, the Expedition and the Navigator, with about 8,912 employees in June 2026. The floodwall decides access
Louisville sits behind 26.1 miles of floodwall and earthen levee. When the Ohio rises, MSD closes openings in the wall that normally carry streets. In April 2025, after more than 8 inches of rain, all 16 flood pump stations were running. Closures went in at 2nd, 10th and 27th Streets, Bingham Way and Port Road in Riverport.
A closed gate can cut the usual route to a site. Deliveries for riverside yards and plants should go in before the river crests, while every road is still open. Generators at pump-dependent sites should be full by then too.
