The Holland Tunnel, a car float and Sandy in Jersey City
Serving Hudson County
In Jersey City, the New Jersey Turnpike’s Hudson County Extension carries I-78 to the Holland Tunnel. Transport tankers can’t follow the traffic through it. Port Authority rules bar tractor-trailers and any vehicle with four or more axles, cap height at 12 feet 6 inches, and put hazardous cargo under separate rules. The Port Authority called a 1949 chemical-truck fire in the tunnel a grave warning about hazardous shipments.
The extension itself is due for major work. In March 2026, Governor Sherrill backed a $6.7 billion replacement of the Newark Bay Bridge, the largest project the Turnpike Authority has ever advanced, with design continuing on safety-only fixes to the roadway leading to the tunnel. That means years of contractor equipment along the corridor.
From the Port Authority’s Greenville Yard on the Upper Bay, New York New Jersey Rail floats freight cars to Brooklyn’s 65th Street Yard. Freight trains can’t use the Hudson rail tunnels, so cars cross the harbor on barges. Yard locomotives and support equipment burn diesel.
What Sandy did to Jersey City
In October 2012, Sandy put several feet of water on the first floor of Jersey City Medical Center, including its trauma center and emergency department. The hospital lost more than 40 vehicles and eight ambulances, but kept inpatient care running. For waterfront sites, the lesson was to keep generators and fuel above the flood line, and keep the tanks full.

How Fuel Gets to You
Mobile fueling or bulk delivery: which fits your Jersey City site?
Three delivery formats. We’ll quote whichever fits your volume, site access and cost target.
Wet-Hose Fueling
Mobile fleet fueling
Overnight or day shift, fuel direct to each tank
A driver pulls into your yard after hours, fuels every truck or piece of equipment directly, logs each fill, and clears out before your crews arrive. No staff required on site.
Best for: Trucking fleets, delivery yards, rental fleets and service vehicles.
Tank Wagon Delivery
On-site tank fills
20 – 4,400 gallons per drop · same-day or scheduled
A smaller delivery truck fills your day tank, jobsite bulk tank or generator. The flexible option when volume varies or site access is tight.
Best for: Construction sites, generator refills, day tanks and smaller bulk storage.
Transport Load
Bulk transport delivery
Full transport loads to 7,500+ gallons · scheduled
Tractor-trailer delivery straight into large bulk storage. The lowest cost per gallon for high-volume buyers.
Best for: Data centers, large industrial sites, agriculture and rail yards.
