Atlanta is now the second-largest data center market in North America. CBRE counted 1,459 MW of inventory at the end of 2025, behind only Northern Virginia. Every one of those halls sits behind diesel standby generators, and their tanks need fuel that stays clean in storage.
Hartsfield-Jackson is the other anchor. It handled 108.1 million passengers in 2024, the most of any airport in the world. Ground handlers, cargo operators and rental fleets work the south side, where I-285 and I-85 meet the airfield.
One pipeline, one interstate
Metro Atlanta’s gasoline arrives by pipe, not by water. About 75% comes on the Colonial Pipeline from the Gulf Coast, and the Plantation Pipeline carries the rest. When Hurricane Harvey forced Colonial to shut down in 2017, Georgia prices rose because of a storm in Texas.
Roads are just as concentrated. In March 2017 a fire under I-85 near Piedmont Road collapsed the bridge. That stretch carried nearly a quarter million vehicles a day, and it stayed closed for 43 days. Fuel on site keeps working when the route doesn’t.
