The Port of Alaska, air cargo and a 7.1 quake in Anchorage

Serving Municipality of Anchorage

Most of Alaska’s freight lands in Anchorage first. About half of all inbound cargo to the state crosses Port of Alaska docks, and about half of that goes on to destinations outside the city. The port also holds 3.1 million barrels of liquid fuel storage. When the port slows, the whole state feels it.

The airport is the other gateway. Ted Stevens Anchorage International ranked first in the U.S. and third in the world for cargo in 2025, according to Airports Council International. The ground equipment and trucks that turn those freighters around run on diesel.

Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson borders the city. It hosts the headquarters of Alaskan Command, 11th Air Force and the 11th Airborne Division. Contractors and support fleets on and around the base add steady demand.

The 2018 earthquake

On November 30, 2018, a magnitude 7.1 earthquake hit Anchorage, the largest since 1964. Roads, bridges and water lines were damaged across the area. The port’s original fuel dock, built in 1965, also took significant structural damage. Its replacement, the Petroleum and Cement Terminal, was finished in 2022. A generator plan here should assume roads and power can fail at once.

Mobile fueling or bulk delivery: which fits your Anchorage site?

Three delivery formats. We’ll quote whichever fits your volume, site access and cost target.

Wet-Hose Fueling
Mobile fleet fueling
Overnight or day shift, fuel direct to each tank
A driver pulls into your yard after hours, fuels every truck or piece of equipment directly, logs each fill, and clears out before your crews arrive. No staff required on site.
Best for: Trucking fleets, delivery yards, rental fleets and service vehicles.
Tank Wagon Delivery
On-site tank fills
20 – 4,400 gallons per drop · same-day or scheduled
A smaller delivery truck fills your day tank, jobsite bulk tank or generator. The flexible option when volume varies or site access is tight.
Best for: Construction sites, generator refills, day tanks and smaller bulk storage.
Transport Load
Bulk transport delivery
Full transport loads to 7,500+ gallons · scheduled
Tractor-trailer delivery straight into large bulk storage. The lowest cost per gallon for high-volume buyers.
Best for: Data centers, large industrial sites, agriculture and rail yards.

Anchorage fuel delivery questions, answered

Do you fuel cargo handlers and fleets around the Anchorage airport?

Can you deliver R99 renewable diesel in Anchorage?
Ask dispatch. R99 isn't available at every terminal, and where it can't be pulled locally it ships by rail or barge, so plan lead time into an Anchorage order.
Do you serve contractors working at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson?
Yes, for contractor equipment and fleets, subject to the base's access rules. See our military and government page for how we work with installations.

How much fuel can you deliver at once?
